The Art of Jacqueline Gallagher
‘Of Melancholy and Monkey Business’, a solo exhibition of new works by emerging artist Jacqueline Gallagher opens on May 7th at SF’s Articulated Gallery. The works center on unsettling portraits of grotesque yet oddly alluring figures, whether as Fiji mermaids in states of suspension and exhibition or as a manic eyed woman captured in a ravaging moment. The strange, magnetic lighting creates a nighttime effect, as the figures are shrouded in darkness curiously illuminated by the glow of blooming flowers or ominous creatures that snake around their captives. Take a peek at more preview images below.

Katsuya Terada’s ‘Terra’s Black Marker’
Opened recently at Compound Gallery is the solo exhibition ‘Terra’s Black Marker’ by Japanese artist Katsuya Terada. Known for his contributions to film and video games, his work is also harvested in the comic series ‘Money King’ published through Dark Horse comics. His exhibition features stunningly kinetic works created entirely with black markers. The simplicity of the medium contrasts with the dazzlingly complex compositions; a fanciful world filled with the noble elegance of coiling dragons, a pale skinned beauty and other creatures caught inthe moment of flight or movement. Take a peek at the rest of the show below.

Jared Joslin’s ‘Stop, Look and Glisten’
